Beware of Phishing Scam: Fake 407 ETR Toll Payment Website Stealing Credit Card Information

A fraudulent website, toll407-ontario[.]com has been identified as a phishing scam designed to deceive Ontario drivers into providing their credit card and personal information. This fake portal closely mimics the official 407 ETR payment website (https://www.407etr.com/en/pay-your-bill), tricking users into believing they are paying their toll bills.

Phishing Website:

Original 407ETR Payment Portal:

How the Scam Works

  1. Impersonation – The phishing site is a near-identical replica of the real 407 ETR online payment portal, with a similar layout and design.
  2. Non-Functional Links – Most of the menu options do not work, except for the fraudulent payment page.
  3. Fake Payment Workflow – The site prompts users to enter their credit card details, billing information, and other sensitive data in what appears to be a legitimate payment process.
  4. Error Message – Once the payment information is submitted, an error message appears stating that the transaction was denied due to an access issue.
  5. Redirection to Legitimate Support – The scam then instructs users to contact 407 ETR customer support, increasing its credibility while leaving users unaware that their sensitive data has already been stolen.

Warning Signs

  • Incorrect Domain Name – The official 407 ETR website is www.407etr.com, while the fraudulent one uses a deceptive variation (toll407-ontario.com).
  • Broken Links – Most menu options do not function properly.
  • Unexpected Payment Errors – Receiving an "access issue" message after entering payment details is a red flag.

What to Do If You Have Entered Your Information

  • Contact Your Bank Immediately – Report the fraud and cancel your credit card if you suspect your details have been stolen.
  • Monitor Your Accounts – Look for any unauthorized transactions.
  • Report the Website – Notify 407 ETR and Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre to take action against the phishing site.
  • Enable Two-Factor Authentication – If you used the same password elsewhere, update your credentials immediately.

Stay Vigilant Against Phishing Scams

Scammers often exploit familiar brands and services to gain trust. Always verify the URL before entering personal information and only use the official 407 ETR website for toll payments. If you receive suspicious emails or texts requesting payment, contact 407 ETR customer service directly through their verified website.
